Some Considerations on the Rat Man Case
Kim Hyun-Woo

Abstract
Following the review of the Rat Man case (Notes upon a case of obsessional neurosis by S. Freud) and a few references on the publication, the author wishes to make several comments on the case. Firstly, it may be very important to write the original record of a psychoanalytic or psychotherapeutic session after the session is over, especially for the beginner. Second, during the analysis of the Rat Man, Freud would give him a lecture-style education, followed by a very direct interpretation. The author thought that such attitudes were not desirable, even though I understood the circumstances of that period. Third, the author understood the somewhat positive attitude towards feeding the Rat Man when he was hungry. Fourth, the author agreed with the opinions that highlighted Freud¡¯s attitude of insignificance toward the mother-child relationship. Fifth, there is a necessity for more focus on the countertransference described by Freud. Finally, the author believed that more attention should be paid to the early emphasis on sexuality in the psychoanalytic psychotherapy, as opposed to the ideas of other critics who focus on the high level of early concern regarding the sexuality described in the Rat Man case.
